Election Night Speech Text

Fauzan Afandi during Election Night, June 15th 2009

Good evening everyone.
First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the election organizing committee, my friends, and my loyal supporters. Thank you for your willingness to come here and carry out your responsibility as the members of ATUSA.
GET MORE WITH FAUZAN. MORE Flexibility, MORE Enjoyment, and MORE Connectivity, that is my slogan. I believe, with these three MOREs, we can bring ATUSA to a higher level of excellence.
Through the concept ‘MORE Flexibility’, I promise that ATUSA will be more appealing after this. Flexible committee is the key of this element. By using this approach, the committee for every ATUSA-organized event will be more flexible, thus enabling everyone to have a chance to lead. Therefore, everyone can unleash their hidden leadership skills, under my MORE Flexibility concept.
The next concept is MORE Enjoyment. I will bring in more enjoyment into ATUSA. This can be achieved by organizing many activities that everyone can join. There will be food hunt trips, charity trips, and last but not least, Jom Balik Kampung program. Food hunt trip enables us to get the taste of rich variety of Malaysian food while Jom Balik Kampung program enables us to know each other more. These activities will be made flexible, where everyone, juniors and seniors can join. This can promote unity among us, ATUSA members. Thus, we can have more enjoyment while we learn more. Believe me, there is a lot more lessons to be learned outside from the class.
The third and final concept is MORE Connectivity. There are two key elements in this concept, which are connecting seniors and juniors and linking them to ATUSA by any means. By having more open-participation events such as academic seminars for juniors, which is guided by seniors, we can actually connect the juniors and seniors. Besides that, I will also ensure everyone is linked with ATUSA by setting up a website for keeping the members up-to-date with the latest information. Besides, a Facebook group will be set up for your added convenience.
I hope I have explained enough on the concepts. Actually, there are many programs that are in my mind now, especially those which I have mentioned just now. Those planned activities can’t be successfully organized without the help of all of you here.
My greatest leadership challenge was when I was in charge as chief editor for my school magazine. Being a chief editor did not give me a full page of speech alone. Instead, I had to sacrifice my study time and end-of-year holiday to finish up editing process due to various constraints. The hard lesson that I have learned is being someone in a high post does not necessarily make you happy. It’s about serving people. That is why I am here, to serve my best to all of you here!
I also realize that to be a good president, I should be capable of doing many things.  Throughout my experience of a committee member for numerous events since my high school days, I have done a great range of task levels, from an ordinary technician in a ceremony to a chairman for my school’s Form 4 orientation program.
I have spent a great time with all of you here, and I hope our memories will last forever. Through the new ATUSA administration, I hope all of ATUSA members can unite and give support to anyone that has the mandate of the voters tonight. I shall pledge my support towards whoever that gets elected tonight. Last but not least, I hope all of us will work together in order to ensure a bright future for ATUSA.
Thank you.

Notes:
ATU Students Association (ATUSA) is a student body comprising of about 300 students from various geographical, ethnic and religious background under American Degree Foundation Program (ADFP) and American Credit Transfer Program (ACTP). Being the only organization that represents everyone in ADFP and ACTP program, ATUSA takes care of student-organized activities and their welfare. ATUSA presidency and all other posts are offered for all of its members. Students are given equal and fair opportunity to present themselves as the most credible person to lead the organization. Diversity within ATUSA itself prevents its election from being just a popularity contest among the candidates.
